How did itall begin?

The story of Huda Hajer, and of how One Life was born — not as a passing project, but as a conviction.

Who am I… and how did “One Life” begin?

I am Huda Hajer, founder and president of One Life Foundation.

Giving has always been part of our life as a family. We used to set aside aid and entrust it to organisations that delivered it to people in need, believing that standing by people is a human and religious responsibility that needs no occasion.

But after the crisis that shook Lebanon, much changed. The circle of need grew wider, and pain became present in many homes. In the same period, I went through personal experiences that showed me, up close, how injustice and corruption can affect a person’s life and dignity.

That is when I decided to give what I had lived through a different meaning, and to turn that energy into real work that stands by people worn down by circumstance.

I no longer wanted our help to be distant from us; I wanted us to reach people ourselves, listen to them, understand their needs, and see the impact of what we do on the ground.

And that is how “One Life” began.

It didn’t begin as a passing project, but as an extension of a conviction that has stayed with me for a long time: that real help doesn’t start with what we have to give, but with our ability to see the person and understand what they truly need.

We chose the name “One Life” because every person has one life, and the right to live it with dignity and hope — and to find, in its hardest moments, a chance for a better beginning.
